AUGUSTA — Cony High School has announced the students ranked in the top 10 of the class of 2022. They are listed in rank order.
Abigail Martin, valedictorian, is the daughter of Kim and Ray Martin of Augusta. She is a member of the math team and secretary of the Cony Chapter of the National Honor Society. She is a varsity swim and volleyball team member.
Martin also participated in the Cony band, pep band and jazz band. She was also a member of her church bible quizzing team. She works at Sprague and Curtis Real Estate, Nellie’s Kitchen and the North End Café.
Martin received the Harvard Book Award, as well as being named an AP Scholar with Honors. She was captain of the swim team and received the Coach’s Award along with the KVAC All Academic award for both swim and volleyball.
She volunteers as a senior counselor at Camp Good News of Maine, a teacher for the children’s program at Augusta First Church of the Nazarene, and she provides tutoring for students in need.
Martin has not made her final decision on a college, but plans to study neuroscience at the school she chooses.
Brodi Freeman, salutatorian, is the son of Shay Freeman and Scott and Jade Freeman of Augusta. He is a member of the varsity basketball and lacrosse teams, as well as the math team.
He was the recipient of the Rensellaer Polytechnic Institute Medal Award. He volunteers with the various Cony Key Club events. Freeman’s plans are undecided at this time.
Brianna Harriman, first honor, is the daughter of Bethany and Shawn Cyr of Augusta. She is a member of the cross country, indoor and outdoor track teams. She also participates in the Outing Club, the math team and is the president of the Latin Club.
She is a member of the Cony Madrigals and was an end in Chizzle Wizzle, as well as a member of the Chizzle Wizzle Executive Committee.
Harriman was selected president of the National Honor Society, as well as being selected as a member of the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute and the Cohen Leadership Institute. She received the Bryn Mawr Book Award, as well as the Everett Perkins Award. She received the Best Teammate and Coaches Awards for outdoor track and field and cross country. She volunteers as a summer youth track coach and does community work with the National Honor Society.
Harriman plans to attend the University of Maine Orono in the fall to major in communication sciences and disorders.
Casey Mills, second honor, is the son of Paige and Jason Mills of Augusta. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Key Club and Spanish Club, as well as a member of the football and lacrosse teams. Mills has been awarded the Maine Principal’s Award and the Williams College Book Award.
He was the captain of the football and lacrosse teams. He was a wrestling state champion, as well as the winner of the Gaziano Defensive Player of the Year award. He volunteers at the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, Togus VA, Augusta Food Bank and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes youth sports camps.
Mills plans to attend Bates College in the fall with an undecided major.
Jakob Varney is the son of Katie and Steve Varney of Augusta. He is a member of the National Honor Society and captain of the soccer and hockey teams. He received the St. Michael’s College Book Award.
He is the recipient of the KVAC Player of the Year and Class B North All Conference for soccer. He also received the Hobey Baker Award and Teammate Award for Hockey, as well as Coaches Awards and All-Academic Team Awards for both soccer and hockey.
Varney volunteers at the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen, Meals on Wheels, Augusta Recreation Soccer, Key Club and church, as well as doing National Honor Society volunteer work.
Varney plans to attend the University of Maine Orono with a major in electrical engineering.
Andrew Rancourt is the son of Tina and Jeff Rancourt of Augusta. He is a member of Student Council, Key Club, math team, quiz team, Investment Club, hockey team, captain of the eSports team, as well as the tennis team.
Rancourt received the College of the Atlantic Book award and placed sixth in the region for math team his sophomore year. He was also the leader/founder of the Cony Investment Club. He volunteers at Key Club events and assisted with the Sen. Matthew Pouliot campaign.
Rancount plans to attend New York University, where he will major in business/economics.
Kristen Kirk is the daughter of Tammy Blair Kirk and Robert Kirk of Augusta. She was captain of the soccer and basketball teams, and was a member of the girls state championship track and field team. She volunteers as a youth summer track and field coach. She is the recipient of the Bates College Book Award.
Kirk plans to attend the University of New Hampshire with a commander’s leadership scholarship from the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Det. 475 and will major in mechanical engineering.
Grace Kirk is the daughter of Tammy Blair Kirk and Robert Kirk of Augusta. She is a member of the varsity cross country, indoor and outdoor track teams. She is also a member band and chorus as well as the Cony Key Club, she was chosen as president of the 2022 Chizzle Wizzle production.
Kirk was the recipient of the Wellesley College Book award, as well as several track and field state champion awards. She volunteers as a youth summer track coach.
Kirk plans to attend the American University, double majoring in journalism and political science while running Division 1 track and field.
Emma Crosby is the daughter of Suzette and Bill Crosby of Augusta. She is a member of the National Honors Society, a member of the Cony swim team, KVYMCA Stingrays and the German Club.
She is the recipient of the University of Maine Orono Book Award, the German Honor Society and the Goethe Institut PAUSCH Scholarship.
Crosby volunteers with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central Maine, Diddos for Kiddos, Tables to Treasures, Western View Golf Club Pub and Event Center, Barnyard All-Terrain, as well as the PALS No Kill Cat Shelter.
Crosby plans to attend an institution in New England and major in biology.
Julia Habib is the daughter of Abe and Holly Habib of Augusta. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute and the Latin Club. She is a lifeguard and swim instructor at the YMCA.
Habib was the recipient of the Yale University Book Club. She volunteers as a Faith Formation Assistant at St. Michael Parish.
Habib plans to attend the University of Maine at Augusta and major in nursing.
