FAIRFIELD — Logan Carpenter and Ben Ryder combined on a three-hitter to lead No. 4 Lawrence past No. 13 Belfast 8-0 in a Class B North preliminary round baseball game Tuesday.
The Bulldogs (13-4) scored two runs in the first and third innings and four more in the fourth. Hunter Lee had an RBI single.
Curtis Littlefield had two singles for Belfast (4-13).
LAKE REGION 1, ERSKINE ACADEMY 0: The 15th-seeded Lakers (5-12) grabbed a lead in the top of the first inning on a Matthew Aker RBI single and it held up as they upended the second-seeded Eagles (13-3) in a Class B South first round matchup at South China.
Brock Gibbons threw a three-hit shutout, striking out nine batters for Lake Region.
Grady Hotham suffered the loss for Erskine Academy, surrendering a single run on five hits, fanning 10.
MONMOUTH ACADEMY 10, MADISON 0: Sammy Calder pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings to help the No. 5 Mustangs (13-4) blank No. 12 Madison in a Class C South prelim in Monmouth.
Calder gave up just two hits and struck out six. He also scored twice and drove in a run.
Hayden Fletcher led all hitters with two hits and two runs scored.
Hayden Tewksbury struck out two batters for Madison.
MT. ABRAM 11, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 1: The No. 2 Roadrunners started slow but ended fast, defeating the No. 14 Falcons in a Class C South prelim in Strong.
Mt. Abram advanced thanks to the strong pitching from Trevor Phelps and Adam Luce.
Mountain Valley scored first with a run in the top of the third, but Mt. Abram scored 10 runs over the next three frames to finish the game in five innings.
Phelps and Luce both notched a double.
YARMOUTH 8, GARDINER 2: Andrew Cheever and Jack McCosh each had two hits and two RBI for the fourth-seeded Clippers (11-6) as they topped the 13th-seeded Tigers (2-15) in a Class B South first-round game at Yarmouth.
Matt Gautreau and Matt Robichaud each had two singles for Yarmouth, which will face fifth-seeded Cape Elizabeth in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Curtis Sulivan struck out five in two innings for the save.
Theron Corliss had a double and a single for Gardiner.
SOFTBALL
OAK HILL 5, DIRIGO 3: The No. 8 Raiders held on to knock out the No. 9 Cougars in a Class C South preliminary game in Wales.
Dirigo was held scoreless until the fifth inning, when it scored its first run. Oak Hill (8-9) answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-1 game before Dirigo added two more runs in the sixth.
Madison Drew made a standout defensive play for Oak Hill in the fourth, catching a line drive and then finishing up a double play to stop a Dirigo scoring threat. At the plate, Drew drove in one of the Raiders’ runs.
Aubrey McElhaney, Carli Austin and Kelsey Young each collected two hits, with Young earning the win in the circle by holding the Cougars (7-10) to three hits. Grace Robbins took the loss for Dirigo.
MONMOUTH 11, CARRABEC 0: Isabella Lyons tripled and Shannah Parsons had three hits and three RBIs as the Mustangs rolled to the C South prelim victory in Monmouth.
Casey Kaplan had three singles and Rileigh Chase drove in a pair for No. 3 Monmouth (14-3), which will host No. 6 Winthrop in the quarterfinals.
Shyanne Holmes doubled to lead Carrabec.
CONY 18, JOHN BAPST 8, 6 INNNINGS: Bri Madore smacked two double to lead the No. 7 Rams past the No. 10 Crusaders in a Class B North prelim game in Augusta.
Sage Fortin had three hits and earned the win in the circle for Cony (8-9). Ariana Croff had three singles.
Lily Stilline had a triple for John Bapst (8-9).
