Artists from all over Maine have responded with enthusiasm to the announcement of Maine Art Gallery’s annual plein air event, Paint Wiscasset, according to a news release from the gallery.
Artist spaces have again this year been entirely filled at 24, due to the limited exhibit space in the old Wiscasset Academy building at 15 Warren St. that houses the gallery.
The artists plan to begin creating paintings throughout the village on Wednesday, June 29. After 1 p.m. that day, the public can view previously completed (dry) paintings by these 24 artists. Then, at a reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 2, the gallery will reveal the recently created “wet paint” art.
Both the dry and the wet art will be on exhibit from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday through July 9.
Among the Maine artists returning this year are Michael Vermeer, Diane Dubreuil, Eric Glass, Anthony Watkins, Deborah Chaplin, Deena Ball and Roberta Goschke. All the artists will display previously completed works in the gallery during the time they are out and about creating new paintings.
The public is invited to observe the artists as they interpret the local landscape. Anyone residing in Wiscasset Village who would like artists to paint their homes is welcome to email Celia Ludwig at celiaartist28@gmail.com.
Ludwig will give the address as a suggestion for the artists to paint, if so inspired. There is no obligation to purchase the painting.
