AUGUSTA — Five members of a family that were believed to be missing have been located and are safe.
The Augusta Police Department issued the update Monday in a brief news release issued midday.
“We are very pleased to announce that all of the persons listed in the previous media release have been located and are safe,” the news release stated. “The family members have been notified.”
On Friday evening, the Augusta Police Department issued a request for the public’s help in locating members of the Al Hilfi family, who had last been seen around 8 p.m. Thursday, and who police believed to be missing.
Around 1:30 a.m. Friday, Augusta police had responded to an apartment on Glenridge Drive in Augusta on a report of suspicious activity. Police remained at the apartment for about 3 1/2 hours.
Missing were Mawj Al Hilfi; her daughters Zainab Al Hilfi, 9, and Assent Al Hilfi, 8; and her sons, Mohammed Al Hilfi and Abbes Al Hilfi, both 4, according to Augusta Deputy Chief Kevin D. Lully. All five are Augusta residents.
The department thanked those who involved in the spreading the alert and following up on leads.
