Happenstance Theater will present “Pocket Moxie,” its family-friendly homage to the Great Age of Vaudeville with slapstick comedy, tight harmonies, and celestial charades, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, at Celebration Barn in South Paris.
Five versatile players breathe new life into classic routines, from a ventriloquist’s dummy to a magic act that goes awry, from a musical saw to waiters juggling meatballs. Full live “foley” sound effects accompany the action. Featuring ensemble members Mark Jaster, Sabrina Mandell, Gwen Grastorf, Sarah Olmsted Thomas, and Alex Vernon, this award-winning professional company is the winner of multiple Helen Hayes awards including Outstanding Ensemble and Outstanding Costume Design.
The Washington Post describes Happenstance Theater as “visually striking and whimsical without being precious.” The Washington City Paper said, “Happenstance Theater’s ensemble comedy is a gut-busting kind of funny.”
