SKOWHEGAN — A man accused of drug trafficking earlier this year was indicted this week by a Somerset County grand jury.
Jonathan A. Charron, 35, of Madison, was charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, violation of conditions of release and two counts of criminal forfeiture.
Charron was stopped by authorities Feb. 17 on the Middle Road in Skowhegan, and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and an agent with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency had a search warrant that they used to conduct a search of his vehicle.
Sheriff Dale Lancaster said at the time that the search yielded about 15 grams of fentanyl, a couple grams of crystal methamphetamine, suboxone strips, numerous controlled pills, digital scales and $6,830 in suspected illicit drug proceeds. The drugs and paraphernalia were confiscated and Charron’s vehicle, a 2008 Honda Civic, also was seized.
The sheriff said the street value of the drugs was around $2,000. At the time of the search, Charron was out on bond for other charges.
The grand jury handed up the indictments on Monday. An indictment is not a finding of guilt, rather an indication there is enough evidence to move forward with a trial. In total, 16 people were charged with 43 counts.
