Bacon buzz is coming to Waterville.
With a sound created over the course of 25 years, actor Kevin Bacon and his brother Michael are bringing their show to the Elm City. It was all thanks to a friend of Kevin’s that they have taken their band on the road.
“An old friend from Philly named Harry Spivak heard a demo and said, ‘Hey come down to Philly, I’ll book a show and you can call yourselves THE BACON BROTHERS!’” Kevin Bacon said in a recent interview.
Playing a show Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Waterville Opera House and hosted by Waterville Creates, The Bacon Brothers will perform original music they created together. Tickets can be purchased at www.watervillecreates.org/shows/the-bacon-brothers.
“We’re always trying to break out of our specific habits and try something new,” Kevin Bacon said in a news release. “We’re two songwriters who have a lot of different influences, and we’ve learned to embrace that reality. As long as it comes from us, it sounds like us.”
Michael Bacon is no stranger to Maine. His application to Colby College in Waterville was rejected years ago and he washed dishes in Kennebunkport.
The duo’s sound, which the brothers call “Forosoco,” is a blend of folk, rock, soul and country. Their newest album, Erato, was released July 8.
“I think that when we are talking about songwriting — we are all over the place,” Michael Bacon said in a recent interview. “And we always have been, and one of the reasons is we are a songwriting band … we kind of live and die on the songwriting.”
