SKOWHEGAN — The Margaret Chase Smith Library plans to celebrate its 40th anniversary on Friday, Aug. 26.
The Skowhegan Heritage Committee and Board of Selectmen have designated this day as the first Margaret Chase Smith Day.
A variety of activities are set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the 56 Norridgewock Ave. library, rain or shine.
Community Scan Day events are set for 10-11:30 a.m.; tours of Senator Smith’s house are planned for 10:30, 11 and 11:30 a.m.; food vendors will be on site from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Margaret Chase Smith Library Director Dr. David Richards, will speak about the 40th anniversary at noon; and Kim Nelson will present story time for children, featuring “Margaret Chase Smith: A Woman for President,” by Lynn Plourde at 12:15 p.m.
Admission will be free; door prizes will be awarded.
Other than while eating, masks will be required indoors per the rules of the University of Maine System. Mask-free seating also will be available outdoors, weather permitting.
