Author Elizabeth Letts plans to join Auburn Public Library via Zoom at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, to talk about her book, “The Ride of Her Life: the True Story of a Woman, Her Horse, and Their Last-Chance Journey Across America.”
The main character, Annie Wilkins, was from Minot, according to a news release from Donna Wallace, the library’s adult services manager.
In 1954, Annie was 63, a farmer who was down on her luck. She had lost her farm to foreclosure, and her doctor had given her two years to live. Instead of taking the spot she was offered in the county charity home, she decided to try to fulfill a lifelong dream to see the Pacific Ocean by traveling there on horseback.
Annie’s journey took her through small towns and big cities over nearly two years.
In her research for the book, which also took about two years, Letts visited local libraries and historical societies in the towns Annie passed through. She will share her journey in researching and writing this book.
