Awards season quickly returned to action Wednesday with the announcement of this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards nominees. This list of nods included the casts of “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “The Fabelmans.”
Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin” and Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” are SAG Awards finalists for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture, where they’ll compete against “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Babylon” and “Women Talking” at the show honoring actors in film and TV.
The nominations came hours after “The Fabelmans,” a semiautobiographical drama inspired by Spielberg’s life, and “The Banshees of Inisherin,” a dark dive into a damaged friendship, won top honors at Tuesday night’s Golden Globes.
“Banshees” received five SAG nods overall. Colin Farrell was nominated for outstanding film actor, while both Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan are up for supporting actor. Kerry Condon is a finalist for supporting actress.
“The Fabelmans” star Paul Dano received a SAG nomination for supporting actor for his portrayal of the titular family’s patriarch.
Also receiving five nominations was the multiverse adventure “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Following their Golden Globes wins, Michelle Yeoh is up for outstanding film actress and Ke Huy Quan is up for supporting actor. Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu are nominated as well, for supporting actress.
Austin Butler, who won best actor in a drama at the Globes for “Elvis,” received a SAG nod for outstanding film actor, as did “The Whale” star Brendan Fraser. Nominees for best film actress include Globes-winning “Tár” star Cate Blanchett” and “The Woman King” standout Viola Davis.
On the TV side, the school-set sitcom “Abbott Elementary” followed its domination at the Globes with a nomination for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series, where it faces “Barry,” “The Bear,” “Only Murders in the Building” and “Hacks.”
The finalists for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series include “Better Call Saul,” “Severance,” “The Crown,” “Ozark” and “The White Lotus.”
“Only Murders” stars Martin Short and Steve Martin are both nominated for male actor in a comedy series, while “Abbott Elementary” actress Quinta Brunson and “Wednesday” lead Jenna Ortega received nods for actress in a comedy series.
Netflix’s YouTube channel will livestream the 29th annual SAG Awards on Feb. 26 from the Fairmont Century Plaza in Century City, California. The 2024 edition of the show is set to air on the Netflix streaming service, organizers announced Wednesday.
