FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue and Mt. Abram were among schools that took home conference ski championships Saturday at Titcomb Mountain.
The Cougars swept their way to Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference boys and girls Nordic titles. In the Mountain Valley Conference, the Roadrunners won their third straight alpine championship.
Mt. Blue also enjoyed success in the slalom as Taylor Gordon was the top overall girls finisher with a time of 1:19.13. She won the KVAC individual title over teammate Katie Yeaton, who finished fourth overall with a time of 1:23.95, and Sophie Simard of Edward Little/Leavitt (fifth overall, 1:24.14).
The MVC individual girls slalom title went to Mountain Valley/Dirigo’s Lily Boulanger, who finished in 1:21.82 to place second overall. Her sister, Jaden, placed third overall with a time of 1:22.91. Amelia Stokes of Rangeley placed sixth overall and third in the MVC with a time of 1:24.55.
The boys KVAC and overall slalom titles went to Camden Hills’ Landon Marquis (1:15.67), who beat out No. 2 overall finisher Thatcher Riley of Maranacook (1:16.91) for the top spot. Edward Little’s Evan O’Donnell (1:19.74) finished fourth overall, and Mt. Blue’s Trent Beaudoin (1:20.09) was fifth.
Mt. Abram’s Charlie Pye ran away with the MVC boys title, placing third overall with a time of 1:19.28. Winthrop rounded out the MVC podium finishers with Will Grant placing 11th overall with a time of 1:26.59 and Jaxon August finishing 12th with a time of 1:27.21.
Mt. Abram’s success, though, wasn’t limited to the alpine ranks. The Roadrunners’ Jeff Warnock had a remarkable day on the Nordic track, winning both the classical and the classical pursuit four days after claiming the freestyle title to make it three titles of three.
“For most of my time doing Nordic, there were a couple other skiers on the team that were faster than I was, but now that I’ve improved a lot, I’ve been able to fill their shoes now that they’re not here,” Warnock said. “As a team, it’s great to have the success we had. We have a lot of hard-working skiers.”
Mountain Valley/Dirigo won the girls alpine title on the backs of Lily Boulanger’s individual MVC championship win in the slalom and Jaden Boulanger’s giant slalom title Tuesday. Orono swept both MVC Nordic team titles with Ruth White winning all three races for the girls.
At press time Saturday, further results from the KVAC races had yet to be made available.
