Isn’t the term “raising the debt limit” long overdue for a change of phrasing? How about “paying our bills” or “paying what we owe”?
Were the question to come up for a vote in Congress phrased as “Do we want to pay our debts?”, the voting choice would be more cut and dry and we’d find out if any of our pols would actually vote “no.”
