A crash Saturday afternoon involving a Waterville cruiser occurred when a vehicle exiting Aroma’s Joe’s on Kennedy Memorial Drive in Waterville collided with the police SUV, according to Winslow police Chief Leonard Macdaid.
The Winslow Police Department investigated the crash because departments do not cover crashes involving their employees.
Little information was available Saturday and Sunday about the incident near 84 Kennedy Memorial Drive, but Macdaid released more details Monday.
Three people were injured in the head-on collision, including Waterville police Officer Mikayla Hodge, 26, who was alone in the 2018 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor, according to Macdaid. The crash was reported just after 2 p.m.
The vehicle that collided with the cruiser was a 2018 Chevrolet being driven by Nathanial Haven, 20, of Waterville, Macdaid said. Elizabeth Gagnon, 20, was a passenger in the front seat of the Chevrolet, he said.
Hodge, Haven and Gagnon were taken by Waterville Rescue and Delta Ambulance to the hospital, according to Macdaid, who said Monday he did not know the extent of their injuries.
“Both vehicles were towed,” Macdaid said.
Waterville’s acting police chief, Bill Bonney, said Saturday the injuries to Hodge, Haven and Gagnon were not considered life-threatening.
