Capital Area Technical Center in Augusta has announced its February professionals of the month.
Aiden Fleck of South China is a senior at Cony High School enrolled for the second year in the Building Construction program. He has had the ability to select building projects with which he has wanted to challenge himself. He has constructed a box, shelf, gun cabinet, fishing rod holder and is now working on building an ice shack, according to a news release from the technical center.
As a second-year student, he has the opportunity to do an Extended Learning Opportunity at Jacob’s Glass in Winslow. Through this employer, he completed window restorations on historic buildings.
Fleck’s instructor, Tom Holzwarth, said, “Aiden is a triple threat. He is smart, hardworking and is able to apply what he learns, which translates to great skills.”
After graduation, Fleck plans to continue working for Jacob’s Glass.
Alivia Maheux of Augusta is a senior at Cony High School enrolled in the Medical/Veterinarian Terminology program.
Maheux knew the course would be challenging, as she has learned at least 1,200 new words this year, but feels her study time and good memory has served her well, the news release notes.
“Alivia is hands-down my best student. She has completed every assignment on time and has remarkable attendance. Her level of maturity and comprehension of the subject matter are beyond compare. She has mastered this college level program, and have no doubt that she has a successful future ahead of her,” said Maheux’s instructor, Bethany Gilliam.
In the fall, Maheux plans to attend a pre-med program at a four-year college, with the long term goal of becoming a dermatologist.
The center serves the students of Cony, Erskine Academy, Gardiner Area High, Hall-Dale High, Maranacook Community High, Monmouth Academy, Richmond High and Winthrop High schools.
