The Great State of Illustration in Maine will be on view April 17 through July 16 at Ticonic Gallery, 93 Main St. in Waterville.
Illustration is an art form with an ancestral home in Maine. Maine has a rich legacy of attracting notable illustrators to the state such as Robert McCloskey, Dahlov Ipcar, Ashley Bryan, Barbara Cooney, Winslow Homer, Rockwell Kent, and Francis Hamabe.
This exhibition, curated by the Illustration Institute, will showcase the past, present and future of illustration in the state, representing history and contemporary culture through narrative imagery.
By exhibiting historic work alongside contemporary illustration, visitors can experience the depth of possibility in narrative art as well as gain a further appreciation for the enduring, beautiful work that was created here.
