Capital Area Technical Center has announced its April professionals of the month.

Dinah Wadleigh of Augusta is a senior at Cony High School enrolled in the Business Academy. She was unsure of her career path when she started the program, but feels that by taking the Business Academy, her interested has been sparked into pursuing a career in that field, according to a news release from Stephanie Turgeon, Student Services coordinator at the center.

A bonus has been earning 15 college credits this year in the Business Academy. Wadleigh is most proud of creating a business plan as a part of the business academy’s curriculum. In this 25-page paper, she created a Dinah’s Donuts business plan and even had to pitch it to “investors.”

Wadleigh is a member of Cony’s soccer and lacrosse teams. She also works at AHOP.

In the fall, Wadleigh plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono and study business.

Andrew Warhol of Sidney is a senior at Cony High enrolled for the second year in the Law Enforcement Academy program. He has enjoyed how hands-on the program has been, as well as the Mechanics of Arrest, Restraint and Control (MARC) curriculum that has been instructed by members of the Augusta Police Department.

Warhol feels his greatest accomplishment was completing the SkillsUSA competition. In the competition, he was required to execute an arrest warrant, which involved handcuffing, searching and getting into a police cruiser an uncooperative suspect. This suspect was role played by an experienced Augusta police officer.

After graduation, Warhol plans to continue his job as a technician at Charlie’s Toyota.

Capital Area Technical Center offers 16 career and technical education programs to students attending eight high schools, which include Cony, Erskine Academy, Gardiner Area High, Hall-Dale High, Maranacook Community High, Monmouth Academy, Richmond High and Winthrop High.
