Five Webelos Cub Scouts from Pack 454 in Oakland completed all requirements for the Arrow of Light, the highest award a youth can earn in Cub Scouting, before crossing over into their new Scout Troops.
The ceremony, complete with a bridge to symbolically cross over, was held May 1 at Snow Pond Center for the Arts’ Alumni Hall in Sidney.
In order to earn the Arrow of Light, Scouts must be active in the Webelos Den for six months and complete each of the four required adventures: Building a Better World, Duty to God in Action, Outdoor Adventurer, and Scouting Adventure.
They also must complete at least one additional adventure with a parent or guardian complete the exercises in the How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide, and watch the Protect Yourself Rules video for Arrow of Light or earn the Protect Yourself Rules for Arrow of Light, according to a news release from Chuck Mahaleris, district chairman for the Kennebec Valley District of Scouting.
The Scouts receiving the Arrow of Light were Dylan Enaire of Sidney, Campion Poulin of Oakland, Rui Webster of Oakland, Tyler Fisher of Fairfield and Cameron Sinclair of Sidney. Noah Rousseau of Sidney also earned the award but was unable to attend the ceremony.
Poulin and Webster have decided to join Oakland Scout Troop 454 while Fisher and Sinclair have opted to join Sidney Troop 401. Enaire is still considering both.
