NEW YORK — Taylor Walls hit a tiebreaking grand slam in the fifth inning, Jose Siri caught Aaron Judge’s fly in front of the center-field wall for the final out and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the New York Yankees 8-7 on Sunday for a four-game series split.
Walls fell a double shy of the cycle after going 3 for 15 in his first five games against New York. Major league-leading Tampa Bay is 4-3 against the Yankees, with six of the games decided by one run. The teams don’t meet again until July 31.
Down 3-0, the Yankees went ahead in the third on two-run homers by Oswaldo Cabrera and Anthony Rizzo off Zach Elfin.
Randy Arozarena hit a tying sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in a five-run inning off Clarke Schmidt (1-4), with centerfielder Harrison Bader running about 90 feet for a sprawling, backhand catch in front of the 399-foot sign that saved two runs.
Josh Lowe walked and Albert Abreu relieved. He threw four straight changeups to Walls, who hit the last into the first row of the right-center field seats near the Yankee bullpen for an 8-4 lead. Tampa Bay has four grand slams this season after hitting on for the second straight day.
GUARDIANS 4, ANGELS 3: Josh Naylor hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning – his third go-ahead homer in three days in that same inning – and Cleveland held on to win at home.
After the Angels intentionally walked José Ramírez to face him, Naylor drove a 2-0 pitch from reliever Carlos Estévez over the wall in right for his latest late-inning heroics.
ASTROS 4, WHITE SOX 3: Yainer Diaz hit his first major league home run to back rookie Hunter Brown and help Houston win in Chicago for its fourth win in five games.
Yordan Alvarez hit a two-run double in the first, advanced on shortstop Tim Anderson’s throwing error and scored on Kyle Tucker’s sacrifice fly as the Astro built an early lead. Diaz, who debuted last September, homered off Lucas Giolito (2-3) in the fourth for a four-run advantage.
TIGERS 5, MARINERS 3: Riley Greene had three hits, Javier Báez drove in two runs and Detroit won at home to prevent a three-game sweep.

RANGERS 11, ATHLETICS 3: Adolis García doubled to start an eight-run eighth inning capped by his second grand slam this season, and Texas Rangers won in Oakland, California to take three of four from the Athletics.
NATIONAL LEAGUE

NATIONALS 3, METS 2: Center fielder Alex Call made a pair of outstanding defensive plays in the ninth inning, preserving Washington’s win at home and dealing slumping New York its 14th loss in 20 games.
In the completion of a game suspended in the third inning after a 3-hour, 56-minute rain delay on Saturday night, CJ Abrams broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh with a home run off Dominic Leone (0-1), who lost in his first decision with the Mets.
MARLINS 3, REDS 1: Bryan De La Cruz doubled twice and singled and Miami won at home to avoid a three-game sweep by Cincinnati.
Activated from the injured list earlier Sunday, Garrett Cooper had two hits and drove in a run for the Marlins, who snapped a five-game home losing skid.
ROCKIES 4, PHILLIES 0: Philadelphia star Bryce Harper was ejected for charging Colorado’s dugout, and Kyle Freeland dominated for six innings on his 30th birthday in the Rockies’ win in Denver.
Harper appeared to respond to Colorado reliever Jake Bird, who clapped a hand against his glove and said something toward the Philadelphia dugout after the last out of the top of the seventh.
Harper was initially restrained by Rockies catcher Elias Díaz, then Phillies third base coach Dusty Wathan prevented the two-time NL MVP from entering a group of players and coaches gathered near the first-base line.
DIAMONDBACKS 2, GIANTS 1: Lourdes Gurriel Jr. drove home Christian Walker with a looping double down the left-field line in the ninth inning, leading Arizona to a victory over San Francisco in Phoenix.

INTERLEAGUE
PIRATES 4, ORIOLES 0: Mitch Keller struck out a career-high 13 in his second straight outstanding start, and slumping Pittsburgh won for only the second time in 13 games, beating the Orioles in Baltimore.
The Pirates avoided a sweep after dropping the first two games of the series. Pittsburgh was 20-8 after a 16-1 win at Washington on April 29. Then the Pirates scored just 18 runs in their next 12 games.
BREWERS 9, ROYALS 6: Christian Yelich homered in the first inning and scored on a bizarre play as part of Milwaukee’s seven-run outburst in the third as the Brewers won at home.

BLUE JAYS 6, BRAVES 5: Danny Jansen hit a two-run single in the ninth inning and Toronto rallied to win at home and complete a three-game sweep of Atlanta.
With Toronto trailing 5-4, Vladimir Guerrero thought he tied the game to begin the ninth, pumping his fist as he watched his deep drive to right, but Guerrero was held to a single when the ball hit the wall.
The Blue Jays loaded the bases with two outs before Jansen singled to left field off Raisel Iglesias (1-1), driving in Guerrero and Matt Chapman.
TWINS 16, CUBS 3: Trevor Larnach hit a three-run homer, Joey Gallo homered for the second straight game and Louie Varland pitched 6 1/3 solid innings as Minnesota beat visiting Chicago.
