BASEBALL
Ceddanne Rafaela went 2 for 4 with three more stolen bases, and a three-run third inning was enough for the Portland Sea Dogs in a 3-1 win Sunday over the Somerset Patriots at Hadlock Field.
The Sea Dogs finished with seven steals, giving them 16 in the final two games of the series. Rafaela followed his team-record six-steal game on Saturday with his 17th, 18th and 19th steals of the season.
Corey Rosier led off the bottom of the third with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pickoff throw and scored on a single by Rafaela. Phillip Sikes, who drew a walk prior to Rafaela’s single, raced home on the front end of a double steal with Rafaela to make it 2-0. Rafaela then stole third and scored on Stephen Scott’s groundout.
Brian Van Belle took a shutout into the seventh inning before giving up an RBI single to Trey Sweeney. Ryan Zeferjahn and Luis Guerrero retired the final seven batters in order to preserve the win.
