Pedestrians use a rainbow-painted crosswalk Wednesday on Oak Street in downtown Augusta. Two Oak Street crosswalks at Water and Commercial streets were painted recently in rainbow colors in recognition of Pride Month. Joe Phelan/Kennebec Journal
There is a picture of a colorful sidewalk in the KJ on June 16. It’s very pretty, but it most definitely is NOT “rainbow-painted.” In a rainbow, the colors occur in a specific order: Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, (indigo), violet. The painted crossing has the red on the wrong side, so it CANNOT be a rainbow.
I don’t know what the motivation of the designer is, but it certainly does not signify Gay Pride.
