SKOWHEGAN — A Madison man pleaded guilty this week to a charge of unlawful sexual contact after assaulting a child under the age of 10, the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office said.

Matthew Jacob, 34, entered his plea Monday in a Skowhegan courtroom and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with all but five years suspended, Sheriff Dale Lancaster said in a news release issued Thursday. He was immediately taken into custody.
Upon completion of his term, Jacob will be placed on probation for 12 years. As a condition of his probation, he is required to undergo sex offender counseling. The conviction also requires Jacob to be placed on Maine’s Sex Offender Registry, Lancaster said.
“This conviction stems from an investigation commenced by Detective Jeremy Leal in May 2022 that began with a tip that an alleged sexual assault occurred in Jacob’s residence between September 2021 and May 2022,” Lancaster said in the statement.
Jacob was arrested and charged in June 2022.
