MADISON — Detectives with the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office are seeking tips from the public as they continue to investigate a robbery that occurred earlier this month at the Big Apple Store on Old Point Avenue.
“We are following up on leads,” Chief Deputy Michael Mitchell said Tuesday. “We do have information leading us in the direction we’re going, but not enough evidence to charge somebody yet.”
At least two masked men brandishing firearms robbed the Big Apple at 17 Old Point Ave. around 3 a.m. Aug. 5, apparently fleeing on foot with an undisclosed amount of money and some store merchandise, Mitchell said later that day.
Law enforcement officials responded to the scene and collected evidence, including surveillance footage. No one was injured in the robbery, Mitchell said.
He said Monday that the detective division of the sheriff’s office is diligently working on the case.
“We’re getting some information from townspeople,” Mitchell said, adding that anyone who has information about the robbery should call the sheriff’s office at 474-9591. If someone wants to leave a tip anonymously, they may call 474-0230.
“Somebody knows something and we haven’t got that right call yet,” Mitchell said.
The Big Apple is near the intersection of Main Street downtown.
