The Kennebec Estuary Land Trust plans to host a series of gatherings to close out the summer season.
People can join trust staff, board members, and friends at upcoming events to sample the bounty produced in the Kennebec Estuary, support local businesses, and further the trust’s work to conserve and restore the cherished natural places, according to a news release from Becky Kolak with the trust.
On Friday, Sept. 1, between 4 and 6 p.m., attendees can kick off Labor Day weekend at the Sasanoa Brewing Company and Tarbox Farm on Westport Island for a happy hour and beer tasting with the trust. The brewery’s tasting room is a casual outdoor space surrounded by organic farm fields, forest, and shoreline. It is both kid and dog (on leash) friendly.
With each ticket comes a four-beer tasting flight of Sasanoa Brewery’s rustic coastal beers and a sampling of snacks. Trust staff and board members will share their vision to actively conserve the wild beauty of Westport and the Kennebec Estuary region.
An optional add-on: At 3 p.m., people can join trust staff for a walk on the recently protected Dunton Preserve at Meadow Pond. This new preserve was conserved in early 2022 and offers 54-acres of woodland along the shores of the freshwater Meadow Pond. To learn more about Sasanoa Brewing Company, visit sasanoabrewing.com.
On Saturday, Sept. 9, from 2-4 p.m., people can join the trust to tour the facilities of a modern aquaculture farm, Eros Oysters, along the shores of coastal Georgetown. Eros specializes in farming Atlantic oysters in the waters of Robinhood Cove.
Each ticket comes with a tasting of four oysters and a 90-minute farm tour on the cove. The trust’s team will share how the land trust’s conservation and restoration programs support the dynamic natural systems that produce oysters. To learn more, visit erosoyster.com.
A limited number of tickets are available for each event. To view additional event details and ticket prices, and to purchase tickets, visit kennebecestuary.org or call 207-442-8400.
