The Jefferson Historical Society plans has set its final open house of the year for 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Old Jefferson Town House, 7 Gardiner Road.

This will be the last chance to see the 2023 exhibits on all three floors of the treasured old Town House, transformed by the society and supporters from a derelict building to a local historical center. Thousands of dollars and volunteers hours went into the 20-plus years and counting restoration project, according to a news release from the society.

The building now houses a growing collection of photos, documents and artifacts, each of which provides a peek into Jefferson’s history. Volunteers are dedicated to research and safely save these items, and share them with the public and future generations.

The society welcomes new knowledge and items which families might share with them. Photographs are easily scanned and returned without damage. Volunteers and new members are always welcome.

The building is partially handicapped-accessible. Outside, visitors also can see the S.H. Bond family horse-drawn hearse and the original outhouse, initially attached to the main building.

Local history books, Jefferson memorabilia and the 2024 Vintage photos calendar for $10 also are available for sale.
