CROSSOVER

WINSLOW (2-0) at NOKOMIS (1-1)

Where: Nokomis Regional High School, Newport

When: 1 p.m. Saturday

Last week: Winslow def. Madison/Carrabec/Valley 16-14; Nokomis lost to Medomak Valley 32-0

Last meeting: Winslow def. Nokomis 27-12 (2022, Class C North quarterfinals)

Impact players: Winslow — Matt Quirion (RB/LB), Hassan Hobbi (K/DB), Liem Fortin (RB/LB), Brody Davidson (OL/DL); Nokomis — Seth Bowden (WR/DB), Logan Washburn (QB/DB), Simon Chadbourne (OL/DL), Oakley Prescott (RB)

Outlook: Winslow is doing its best to battle its way through injuries and illnesses, and it’s uncertain which key pieces the Black Raiders will be with and without tomorrow. Nokomis would like nothing more than to get back on track following the shutout loss to a solid Medomak squad, and a home game against a depleted Winslow team might just provide that opportunity.

SKOWHEGAN (0-2) at BANGOR (1-1)

Where: Cameron Stadium, Bangor

When: 7, tonight

Last week: Cony def. Skowhegan 22-0; Windham def. Bangor 35-6

Last meeting: Skowhegan def. Bangor 47-7 (2022, Week 4)

Impact players: Skowhegan — Jason Aubin (QB), Owen Falardeau (OL/DL), Aydan Mulcahy (RB/LB), Bryce Jewell (OL/DL); Bangor — Jack Schuck (QB), Isaac Osborne (OL/DL), Xavier Pike (RB), Mason Knights (RB/LB)

Outlook: The defending champion River Hawks have found the start of the season to be an uphill climb. Skowhegan needs improvement on both sides of the ball, particularly on offense, as the River Hawks have not scored a point in their first two games. Bangor, which opened the season with a crossover win over Lawrence, will look to get back on track after a loss to Windham last week.

CLASS B

CONY (1-1) at MESSALONSKEE (2-0)

Where: Veterans Field, Oakland

When: 7 tonight

Last week: Cony def. Skowhegan 22-0; Messalonskee def. Gardiner 35-0

Last meeting: Cony def. Messalonskee 47-12 (2022, Week 6)

Impact players: Cony — Parker Morin (QB), Jonny Lettre (OL/DL), Parker Sergent (WR), Tyler Pelletier (LB); Messalonskee — Sam Dube (RB), Garrett Card (RB/DB), Cooper LeClair (OL/DL), Tatum Doucette (QB/DB), Drake Brunelle (WR/DB)

Outlook: It’s another big game for the Eagles, who could gain some early separation from the pack in Class B North with a win over the Rams. Cony got some offensive momentum going in last week’s weather-shortened victory over Skowhegan and will look to Morin and Sergent to test a Messalonskee secondary that’s recorded seven interceptions in two games.

LAWRENCE (1-1)

at MT. BLUE (0-2)

Where: Caldwell Field, Farmington

When: 7, tonight

Last week: Lawrence def. Falmouth 27-8; Mt. Blue lost to Deering 35-6

Last meeting: Lawrence def. Mt. Blue 68-15 (2022, Week 6)

Impact players: Lawrence — Michael Hamlin (QB), Gavin Lunt (WR), Cam Dostie (OL/DL), Colton Carter (RB/DB); Mt. Blue — Klay Dunning (QB), Dane Cousineau (RB), Charles Stevens (TE/DE), Noah Prescott (WR)

Outlook: After a bitter loss to Bangor to start the season, Lawrence had bright moments on both sides of the ball in a bounceback victory over Falmouth. The Bulldogs, who forced four turnovers against the Navigators, will look to build on that defensive success tonight as they travel to face a young Mt. Blue team that’s still looking to find a rhythm offensively.

FALMOUTH (0-2)

at GARDINER (1-1)

Where: Hoch Field, Gardiner

When: 7, tonight

Last week: Falmouth lost to Lawrence 27-8; Gardiner lost to Messalonskee 35-0

Last meeting: Falmouth def. Gardiner 27-21 (2022, Class B North quarterfinals)

Impact players: Falmouth — Indi Backman (RB/LB), Will Gale (OL/DL), Tre Walker (QB), Luke Roy (WR/DB); Gardiner — Evan Michaud (RB/LB), Asher Nagy (QB), Cody Dingwell (WR/DB), Zach Kristan (TE/DL)

Outlook: It will be interesting to see who starts at quarterback for Gardiner after Nagy replaced Chase Burgess under center late in the first quarter against Messalonskee. Falmouth, meanwhile, is desperate for a win after being outscored 74-16 in what’s been an unexpected 0-2 start to the season and will count on Backman to rack up some big yardage on the ground.

CLASS D

MCI (0-2) at MADISON (0-2)

Where: Rudman Field, Madison

When: 7 tonight

Last week: MCI lost to Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall-Dale 53-47 (OT); Madison/Carrabec/Valley lost to Winslow 16-14

Last meeting: Madison def. MCI 26-7 (2006, Week 9)

Impact players: MCI — Lincoln McAlpine (RB/DB), Gavin Hanscombe (OL/DL), Drew Shorey (WR), Caleb Kennedy (QB/DB); Madison/Carrabec/Valley — Mason Courtney (OL/DL), Brode Strout (QB/DB), Nate Cornforth (TE/LB), Pablo Giddings (WR)

Outlook: It’s the first meeting in 17 years between the Bulldogs and Huskies, who are in the same class and region for the first time since the 2006 meeting. After both teams lost by the narrowest of margins in Week 2, one of them will walk away with a well-deserved win here. Expect big things from the Kennedy-Shorey and Strout-Giddings connections in the passing game.

WELLS (1-1) at WIN/MON/HD (1-1)

Where: Hoch Field, Gardiner

When: 1 p.m., Saturday

Last week: York def. Wells 32-14; Win./Mon./HD def. Maine Central Institute 53-47 (OT)

Last meeting: Wells def. Win./Mon./HD 41-22 (2018 Class D playoffs)

Impact players: Wells — Eli Potter (RB), Dyllan Davis (RB), Dom Buxton (RB), Conner Whitten (RB), Brooks Fox (QB); Win./Mon./HD — Braden Branagan (QB), Carter Rivers (RB)

Outlook: The Ramblers are coming off a wild shootout against the Huskies last weekend. Branagan has proven to be a weapon at QB so far for Winthrop. He’ll need to be at his best yet again for this week’s matchup. The Warriors fell to rival York in a crossover, but started the year off with a 31-0 win over Oak Hill in Week 1. Wells has several backs that can break loose at any time, and Fox has shown a strong arm early in the season.

OAK HILL (0-2)

at POLAND (2-0)

Where: Poland Regional High School, Poland

When: 7, tonight

Last week: Foxcroft Academy def. Oak Hill 49-0; Poland def. Old Town 16-0

Last meeting: Poland def. Oak Hill 22-0 (2022, Week 2)

Impact players: Oak Hill — Kaiden Delano (RB/LB), Hunter Drew (RB/DE), Adam Hinkley (RB/DB), Kai Taylor (QB); Poland — Regan Martin (LB), Nick Aube (DE), Damon Howze (QB), Isaac Ramsdell (RB/DB)

Outlook: The young Raiders are still trying to find their footing, especially on offense as they’ve yet to score. The weapons are there in Delano, Drew and Hinkley. Poland has done little wrong in its two games, especially on defense, posting two straight shutouts.

8-MAN

MORSE (1-1) at WATERVILLE (2-0)

Where: Drummond Field, Waterville

When: 3:30 p.m. today

Last week: Morse def. Brunswick 30-28; Waterville def. Mt. Ararat 24-0

Last meeting: Waterville def. Morse 22-12 (2022, Large School North semifinals)

Impact players: Morse — Calin Gould (QB/DB), Braylon Williams (RB/DL), Tyson Pinkham (RB/LB), Ashford Hayes (OL/LB); Waterville — Wyatt Gradie (QB), Dawson Harrison (RB/DB), Griffin Pelotte (OL/DL), Ben Foster (RB/LB)

Outlook: Waterville and Morse have gotten used to one another over the past two years, meeting in the regular season and playoffs in 2021 and 2022. The Purple Panthers have won all four of those matchups, and a defense that’s yet to allow a point yet this season will look to make it a fifth tomorrow against a Shipbuilders team that’s been a mixed bag in its first two games.

TRAIP ACADEMY (0-2)

at MARANACOOK (2-0)

Where: Ricky Gibson Field of Dreams, Readfield

When: 7, tonight

Last week: Boothbay def. Traip 24-12; Maranacook def. Mount View 56-0

Last meeting: Maranacook def. Traip 60-6 (2022, Week 7)

Impact players: Traip — Max Jordan (QB), Phin Fifield (WR/DB), Ben Martine (LB), Seamus Berry (DB); Maranacook — Owen Dunn (RB/LB), Robbie Vivenzio (WR/DB), Kody Goucher (RB), Gabe Jacobs (RB/DB), Patrick Cushing (OL/DL)

Outlook: The Black Bears are on a roll to start the season, scoring 112 points (56 per game) in the first two contests. Dunn continues to be a force on both sides of the ball for Maranacook. Meanwhile, the Black Bears defense has allowed just 12 points. They should have little trouble with a young Traip squad, led behind center by Jordan, a sophomore.

MOUNT VIEW (0-2)

at TELSTAR (0-2)

Where: Captain Benjamin R. Cross Memorial Field, Bethel

When: 1:30 p.m., Saturday

Last week: Maranacook def. Mount View 56-0; Sacopee Valley def. Telstar 48-44

Last meeting: No recent meeting between teams

Impact players: Mount View — Anthony Mathous (LB), Wyatt Evensen (RB/DB), Josiah Miller (RB/DB), Chase Kenney (QB/LB); Telstar — Gavinn Martin (RB/LB), Wyatt Lilly (WR/DB), Brody Walker (QB),

Outlook: The Mustangs have had a rough start to the season on defense, allowing 102 points (51 ppg) in their first two games. You know what to expect from the Mount View offense: A heavy dose of Evensen carrying the ball. Though the Rebels went 3-5 last year, they bring experience into the fold. Martin is a playmaker on both sides of the ball for Telstar.
