SOUTH PORTLAND — Girl Scouts of Maine is set hold a free open house, including interactive activities and service projects, from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30.
The organization will unveil its reimagined South Portland Service Center 138 Gannett Drive.
Visitors are invited to explore the refreshed service center by immersing themselves in hands-on workshops featuring new Girl Scout programming. A make-your-own fidget key ring tutorial, collaborative art board, and thank-you card station are among Maker Badge activities to be featured, along with breathing technique workshops and positive affirmation exercises highlighting the Girl Scout’s expanded Mental Wellness patch program, according to a news release from Helen Ruhlin with the organization.
The organization will also be offering a variety of service projects, including making “snuffle mats” for the Animal Refuge League. Attendees are encouraged to bring food to donate to the local Good Shepard Food Bank. A list of most needed food items can be found on their website.
Guests can share their Girl Scout experiences while testing out storytelling equipment found in the new Media Studio, meeting GSME CEO Mara Robinov-Moorhead, and getting their face painted by a pro.
The organization’s Weekend of Service will run from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1, during which Girl Scouts from around the state are encouraged to venture into their communities to take part in a volunteer activity that benefits their local area. Past participants of the annual weekend celebration have given back through gardening, organizing food drives, cleaning up trash, collecting clothing donations, and countless other ways to help improve their towns and cities.
