FARMINGTON — The Farmington Recreation Department is getting ready to get spooky with their annual Indoor Spooktacular, which is set to take place on Saturday, Oct. 28. The event will run from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and will feature a first place trophy for the booth that receives the most votes from participants.
The rec department is inviting businesses, clubs, sports teams, and other organizations to join them in creating a family friendly event. Participants are responsible to provide their own candy to hand out and Assistant Director Jennifer Savage recommends participants bring enough candy to serve 250 children.
The event will be similar to a trunk or treat, but will be inside at the Farmington Community Building located at 127 Middle Street.
“This allows there to be less stress because the event can take place rain or shine,” Savage stated in an open letter to the community. “It also gives children the opportunity to enjoy showing off their costumes for all to see, take family photos, and enjoy some games too.”
Savage stated the games they will be offering are ring toss on the pumpkin, mini pumpkin bowling, and tic tac toe with gourds versus pumpkins.
“Sometimes other places decorate and create some games too,” she added.
Participating organizations will be given a space of about 10 feet by 10 feet to build a booth that is fun, festive, and engaging for children and their families. The rec center stated that participants can arrive as early as 2 p.m. to begin decorating, but all participants must be at the Community Building by no later than 3 p.m. for photos.
First place last year went to Noah’s Ark Daycare, with Kyes Insurance coming in second place.
The department also states that all costume and booth designs must be appropriate for children, and specifically asks for designs to not be gory, scary or sensual.
The event will come to a close at 6:30 p.m., with the rec center stating the building must be vacated by 8 p.m.
