Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area plans to host a reading and discussion workshop, Finding Joy Within Grief, with poet Sarah Carlson.
The workshop will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Hospice Community Center, 304 Main St. in Waterville.
Carlson brings several of her passions together — writing, teaching, the power of pausing, and connection to the natural world and to others. She will weave together photographs and poems that represent the way joy can and will find a place in the process of grieving and adjusting to change. Along the way, opportunities for listeners to reflect and share will be provided. This can also be a time to simply listen, connect, and enjoy the moments, according to a news release from Jillian Roy with hospice.
She will have two of her books available for sale, “In the Currents of Quiet” and “Tender Light Softens.”
Carlson is an educator and poet from Farmington. She published “The Radiance of Change” in 2018, “In the Currents of Quiet” in 2020, and “Tender Light Softens: When the Deep Places Speak” in 2022. Her books are collections of poems, each paired with nature photography. In her writing process the imagery and images seem to find each other and, together, capture moments of grace, joy, love, and healing that are profoundly relatable.
