NORWAY — Megan MacGregor and Jill Piekut-Roy from the Glickman Family Library at the University of Southern Maine plan to present a talk, “The Wilde-Stein Club: The Start of Queer Liberation in Maine.”
The talk runs from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the 258 Main St. library.
October is LGBT History Month and American Archives Month.
The Wilde-Stein Club, named after literary figures Oscar Wilde and Gertrude Stein, was established 50 years ago. It was the first gay and lesbian club at the University of Maine, according to a news release from Alana DePerte at the library.
Attendees can see copies of documents significant to the club and to Maine LGBT history from the Glickman Family Library archives. The group will then discuss the documents to decide which should be included in a timeline of events.
For more information and to register by Tuesday, Oct. 17, call 207-743-5309 ext. 1 or visit the library’s information desk.
