The Greater Augusta Back to School Program, a nonprofit organization, is gearing up for its third annual Winter Coats Giveaway.
The event is set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Augusta Elks Lodge, 397 Civic Center Drive.
The program has partnered with the Augusta Fire Department.
The coats are geared to serve youth in kindergarten through fifth grade. Children must be present with an adult to select their new coat.
With many donations coming in from local businesses, clubs/organizations and concerned individuals, program vice president and board member Lina Michaud stated in a news release that “We were able to double the amount of coats we purchased this year to better serve and meet the need in our community and surrounding towns and cities, within a 15-mile radius of Augusta. We will be offering winter hats, gloves and mittens, as well.”
The GABTSP teams up with Operation Warm who has brought warmth, security and hope into 2,100-plus communities in North America over the past 24 years, providing Winter Coats to over 5 million children in need.
The Greater Augusta Back to School Program distributed over 1,300 filled backpacks this year to area students.
