My heart hurts for those affected by the recently mass shooting taking the lives of 18 individuals and affecting the families and the community. As someone from Texas, a state with a history of mass shootings, I want to assure you that things will get better.
Here in Texas most Texans quickly forgot about the 19 children killed in Uvalde and even voted to return the elected officials responsible for providing easy access to assault weapons to the shooter back to office. This included our Gov. Greg Abbott, who bragged about making Texas a 2nd Amendment sanctuary state just months after the Santa Fe high school shooting that took the lives of eight kids, then continued to sign laws that weakened gun laws.
I hope the citizens of Maine do not forget those who lost their lives and will demand action to prevent future killings. Don’t be like Texas. Don’t forget.
