WILTON — Wilton Town Manager Perry Ellsworth has had his resignation date formally extended to Monday, Nov. 13. The town continues its search for a town manager with several candidates in heavy consideration.
A special meeting between the Select Board and hiring committee was held on Wednesday, Oct. 25, with two executive sessions that followed. No action was taken after the first executive session. The second executive session resulted in an extension of Ellsworth’s date of resignation.
The Select Board added that with the Wilton Town Office located at 158 Weld Road, being used for the election slated for Tuesday, Nov. 7, the regularly scheduled Select Board meeting will be at Wilton Public Safety Building. An agenda will be forthcoming, Ellsworth shared in an email.
Ellsworth formally announced his resignation from the position in July and set his final day for Wednesday, Nov. 1. With no new town manager selected to replace him, the Select Board has voted to extend his date of resignation. Ellsworth has stated multiple times before the Select Board that he will not vacate his position until a viable replacement is found.
“I want Wilton to have the best that they can have,” Ellsworth stated, “and I am committed to staying here until you find a manager that you want to sit in this seat. If it doesn’t happen, or it takes more than one time, I’m not gonna leave this town flat.”
The Select Board and hiring committee have met with potential candidates through various special Select Board meetings through the month of October. Those meetings took place on Tuesday, Oct. 10, Thursday, Oct. 12, Wednesday, Oct. 18, and Wednesday, Oct. 25.
