AUGUSTA — Officials have released more details of a crash Wednesday on Cony Road in Augusta that injured four Gardiner Area High School students and closed the roadway in the afternoon.
Police said they responded at 11:12 a.m. to the report of a single-vehicle crash with injury and found that a 2010 Toyota Corolla that was traveling northbound had gone off the road and hit a utility pole, according to information released Thursday.
Four 17-year-old boys, three from West Gardiner and one from Randolph, were inside the car.
One passenger from West Gardiner was taken by a LifeFlight of Maine air ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was in serious but stable condition, according to Augusta police.
The driver was treated for minor injuries. The two remaining passengers were treated at the scene by Augusta Fire-Rescue and released.
In the wake of the crash, Gardiner Area High School Principal Lauren Arnold sent a text message informing the school community of the crash.
The students were traveling from Gardiner to the Capital Area Technical Center in Augusta.
The Maine State Police conducted a crash reconstruction, which closed Cony Road in the afternoon.
The crash remained under investigation Thursday.
