A Hartland man has been charged in connection to a string of burglaries and thefts that took place in August and September in St. Albans, the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
Detectives with the sheriff’s office linked Guy Maloon II, 35, to the thefts of several items — including a television, tools and horse saddles — taken from storage units, an office and a residence, Sheriff Dale Lancaster said in a news release.
An arrest warrant was obtained for Maloon on Nov. 1 and he was taken into custody and charged with three counts of burglary, four counts of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, and three counts of violating conditions of release, Lancaster said.
Maloon was taken to the Somerset County Jail but online jail records indicate he was no longer being held there Friday.
Sheriff’s Detective Wilfred Dodge on Oct. 17 stopped Maloon in Hartland driving a U-Haul rental truck that Bangor police had reported as stolen, according to Lancaster. Inside the truck, Dodge found two horse saddles reported missing from a St. Albans residence as well as a flat screen monitor reported missing from the office at Indian Lake Self Storage in St. Albans.
Three days later, the sheriff’s office executed search warrants at two Hartland storage units rented by Maloon and another person, where investigators found items reported stolen from three storage units at Indian Lake Self Storage in September, Lancaster said. Those items included tools, ladders and household goods. Locks to the storage units were cut off to gain access.
At the time the items were stolen, Maloon was out on bail for unrelated criminal offenses, which is why he was charged with violating conditions of release, Lancaster said.
He has an initial court date scheduled for Nov. 27 in Skowhegan.
