A man was injured during the wee hours Friday morning after getting into a fight with a pair of unidentified men, and then several gunshots were fired into the apartment the man had been visiting, police said.
Officers said whoever fired gunshots at the apartment had fled the area, according to a news release from the Fairfield Police Department.
Fairfield police first received a 911 call at 1:25 a.m. Friday from 31 Main St., the American Lodge, reporting that a resident’s apartment had been shot several times. Fairfield and Waterville police officers responded, receiving information that a guest at the apartment “had been injured during an altercation with two unknown male parties.”
After that fight, “several gun shots had been fired into the apartment that the guest had been visiting, by the unknown subjects, as they fled the area,” the release stated. Police did not indicate whether the gunshots injured anyone. Fairfield-Benton Emergency Services and Delta Ambulance also responded.
Fairfield police said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public and asked anyone with information on the incident to call the Fairfield Police Department at 207-453-9321.
