There is no denying that the Maine State Police and Public Safety Commissioner Michael Sauschuck totally botched the Robert Card case. While area residents were sheltering in place, the MSP wasted time and ignored basic police procedures to apprehend an active shooting suspect. After finding his car, they didn’t even try to track him with a dog. This incident is both a tragedy and an embarrassment to the state of Maine.

The mental health system totally failed Card. The state of Maine and Army Reserve let him down which allowed the tragedy in Lewiston to take place. The yellow flag law proved to be totally useless.

Gov. Mills seems to be in denial, but has appointed seven people to an independent commission to investigate the shootings; seven elite people, but no representation from common citizens. Wouldn’t it be nice to have just one person involved that is not a lawyer, but may have common sense?

I base my opinions upon a combined 60-plus years experience in law enforcement between my husband and myself, including his time as a homicide investigator. He also retired from the Army Reserve. He has always called the MSP the “masters of the mysteries.” Unfortunately, this mystery was too much for them to handle.
