FAIRFIELD — Kennebec Valley Community College is set to launch its first entrepreneurship program in January to help people start and develop new businesses.
The free program is structured to be four months long and focus on a variety of topics, including the basics of starting a business, drafting business plans as an entrepreneur and designing a business pitch, according to an announcement from KVCC officials.
“We are partnering with other entrepreneurship programs and accelerators in the Central Maine region to keep building on the great community and ecosystem developing here,” Joe Musumeci, director of workforce training and professional development, said.
Musumeci said the program can also benefit those who are working full time but have interest in becoming an entrepreneur.
The program is designed to allow those interested in entrepreneurship to have access to the tools needed to start a business, Musumeci said.
The online course will be taught weekly over Zoom, with classes held in the evening. Prior to each class, participants will be required to complete assignments and activities to help increase their knowledge of the business industry.
“As an experienced entrepreneur and business owner myself, I understand the challenges and rewards of starting and growing a business,” Ashleigh Briggs, a Bangor-based entrepreneur, said in the announcement.
Briggs is set to lead the Business Entrepreneurship Program and urged Mainers to participate in the program to increase their understanding of business to help them achieve their goals.
Those interested in participating can apply on the KVCC website — www.kvcc.me.edu — for the January cohort. About 20 participants will be enrolled at a time, according to college officials.
“This is an incredible opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, connect with local business leaders, and turn your entrepreneurial dreams into reality — all at no cost,” Briggs said in the announcement. “I can’t wait to see what amazing ideas and businesses will come out of this program!”
