My life’s companion, Jane Drake of Bangor, informed me of the University of Maine’s gift of free tuition to the mass shooting victims’ families and survivors (“Shooting victims, families eligible for free tuition at Maine’s public universities,” Nov. 29).

UMaine has created a living legacy that will last long after the news fades from the headlines and the TV trucks are gone.
