AUGUSTA – Corris Ann Cammack, nee Cummings, died peacefully at Maine General on Dec. 14, 2023, following a brief illness. She was born on Jan. 1, 1940, in Gardiner, and grew up in Hallowell, where she graduated from Hallowell High School in 1957. The middle child of five, Corrie (as she was known to friends and family) conquered childhood polio and kept that indomitable spirit throughout her whole life, coupled with kindness, deep compassion, and a sly, playful wit that delighted many.
She spent much of her adulthood working as a Veterinary Lab Tech in Augusta, as animals were a great love in her life. But her greatest love was for motherhood and the five children she had with her former husband, the late Donald C. Watson of Hallowell. Children: Jason Watson (Bonnie), Sean Watson (Sherry), Adam Watson (Patty), Chris Watson (Angie), and Jan Watson (Mason).
Her family remembers her love of the arts; she taught herself to play piano and guitar and dabbled in painting, crafts, poetry, and home decorating. She cultivated a sense of creativity and individuality in each of her children and most of all, impressed upon them the importance of being good to others.
Corrie was predeceased by her parents, her sister Nora Cummings Jean, and by her husband, the late Robert P. Cammack.
She leaves behind her dear companion, Wayne Weeks of Oakland; two surviving brothers, John and Norman Cummings; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and many friends who were touched by her unforgettable personality.
Arrangements are in the care of Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield where memories may be shared, and an online register book signed by visiting http://www.lawrybrothers.com.
