Gardiner police have released images taken from security video at Cumberland Farms on Bridge Street of a suspect in the robbery at the store early Wednesday.
The images show a person, believed to be a man, wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled up and jeans.
Police say that shortly before 1 a.m., Wednesday the suspect entered the store and waited at the checkout area. When the suspect made contact with the clerk, he showed a hand-held edged weapon, indicated the cash register and demanded money.
When the suspect received it, he fled on foot south toward McDonald’s.
On Wednesday, Gardiner Police Chief James Toman said the Maine State Police were alerted, and a police tracking dog was brought in. The dog was able to track the suspect into a wooded area between Middle Street and Highland Avenue, where the scent was lost.
The suspect is described as being between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall.
