FAYETTE — Selectmen have signed an initial franchise agreement with Time Warner Cable that will bring cable service to the town starting from the southern end along Route 17.
Town Manager Mark Robinson said almost the entire town receives DSL service through FairPoint Communications; however, one area along Lovejoy Pond Road lacks service. Fayette’s population is 1,140.
The town asked Time Warner Cable “to determine how they could meet unserved folk on Lovejoy Pond Road,” Robinson said. “That impacts a number of seasonal and year-round residents.”
He said selectmen, who adopted the agreement at a meeting Monday, hope the lines in that area could come through Wayne, which also has Time Warner Cable.
Selectmen also adopted a resolution telling Gov. Paul LePage they oppose his budget-cutting proposals because they would harm the town’s revenue stream and affect property owners.
Robinson said one resident who is retired but under 65 would lose about $2,100 in deductions and exemptions between the changes proposed to the homestead exemption and those affecting the circuit breaker program.
About 90 residents who are over age 65, however, may see an increase in their deductions under the changes proposed to the homestead exemption, while 261 others might lose that deduction entirely, Robinson said.
In other business, the board approved a plan to do a controlled burn of North Road property for training for firefighters. Robinson said the owner of abutting land acquired the property, which has debris and some buildings on it, and offered it for training.
