Couple and child hurt in Thursday crash
RICHMOND — A Monmouth couple was taken to the hospital Thursday after a crash that also injured the couple’s young child.
Chase Bickford, 27, and his partner, Ashley Ward, 25, were taken by ambulance to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. Richmond police Officer Doug Bellevue said Ward was hurt more seriously, but the injuries she and Bickford suffered were not considered life-threatening.
The couple’s toddler, who was in a car seat in the back of the 1999 Volkswagen Passat, was treated by rescue workers at the scene, but rode to the hospital with a relative, Bellevue said. The driver of the second car, Samantha Williams, 17, of Bowdoin, was not injured, Bellevue said.
The crash occurred around 11 a.m. as Bickford drove south on U.S. Route 201, which is also Brunswick Road. Bellevue said Williams, who was driving south in her 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, failed to notice when Bickford slowed to make a right turn into a driveway at 96 Brunswick Road. Williams’ Cavalier hit Bickford’s Passat from behind, sending the Volkswagen spinning off the road and into the driveway, Bellevue said.
Williams continued down the road until her car stopped after about a half-mile, Bellevue said.
Both cars were damaged badly. There are no charges connected to the crash, police said.
