FARMINGTON — A Farmington man started serving a nine month and one day sentence Friday after appearing in Franklin County Superior Court for sentencing.

Robert Sirois, 56, pleaded guilty last month to marijuana trafficking and growing charges as part of a plea agreement after police broke up a drug operation in Industry in September of 2009.

Sentencing was continued till Friday to provide time to clear up a third charge of criminal forfeiture of property involving a vehicle with a lien on it.

Justice Michaela Murphy sentenced Sirois to five years with all but nine months and a day suspended on both charges, served concurrently. The sentence also included three years probation on the first charge and two years probation on the second charge and a fine of $20,000 plus court surcharges that brought that amount to $24,050.

Drug agents seized more than 30 pounds of harvested marijuana and a sophisticated growing operation with more than 100 plants of various sizes under high-intensity grow lights in a home at 1121 Industry Road last September, Assistant Attorney General David Fisher told the court last month.

Sirois was found by the drug agents in a second floor room clipping marijuana buds, he said. Drug agents and state police conducted surveillance at the Industry location following a tip that Sirois had been harvesting in the area.

Four were arrested at the time including Sirois, Charles Correll, 50, of Industry, the owner of the home, Eric C. Hall, 38, of Industry and Matthew W. Hemingway, 45, of Farmington.
