The Regional School Unit 49 community recently lost an incredible individual who had supported the students of Lawrence High School for decades. Norm Kenney was a very humble man who did what he did because he simply loved helping kids. A fervent booster of LHS athletics, he built ice rinks so that a generation of students could learn to skate and play ice hockey. Norm also helped students build homecoming floats and decorate their junior proms for years.

During our years at Lawrence, Norm and his wife Barb chaperoned numerous events, followed the sports and activities of their five children, transported van loads of kids everywhere, and delivered gallons of lemonade and hot chocolate and platters of sandwiches to hungry kids and teachers who were working on their floats and proms. They did whatever they could when their own children were in school and did it again as their grandchildren went through Lawrence.

Norm Kenney was a loving family man who was a great role model for kids and teachers alike. It was truly a gift for us to have had the opportunity to work with Norm and Barb and we hope that people will remember Norm fondly as they walk through the foyer at Lawrence High School and see the bulldog that he so lovingly carved in the center of the floor.

Norm Kenney was a kind and giving man. We feel honored to have known him.
