A number of Central Maine Power customers in Hallowell, Gardiner and Farmingdale were without power Thursday evening following an outage.
According to CMP’s website, 3,697 customers in Kennebec County were without power. Most of those were concentrated around Hallowell and Gardiner.
Kennebec County Emergency Management Association Director Sean Goodwin, who said he spoke with CMP officials, said the outage was caused by a problem with a ground wire.
He said around 6:45 p.m. that power should be restored within a “couple hours.”
CMP spokesperson Catherine Hartnett said the reports of outages came in at 5:51 p.m. and crews were “patrolling the circuit” to look for the source of the outage around 6:30 p.m. The outage did not appear to be weather- or accident-related, she said.
The outage caused the cancellation of a Hallowell City Council meeting, as many members of the council were without power and unable to sign onto Zoom.
CMP says all customers were restored at around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
