Lillian P. Hussey Elementary School in Augusta was operating under fully remote learning Monday after a person associated with the school tested positive for COVID-19.

A letter from Principal Troy Alexander, posted Sunday night on Facebook, reported a number of staff members had “been identified as close contacts.”

Alexander wrote that “out of an abundance of caution,” there would be no in-person learning Monday. The letter also was posted on the school’s website.

Meantime, Hall-Dale Elementary School in Hallowell did not make changes Monday to its teaching schedule after a positive case of COVID-19 was reported Saturday.

RSU 2 Superintendent Tonya Arnold posted a notice Saturday on the district’s website that “contact tracing is underway at HDES based on one new positive case.”

“Close contacts have been contacted with instruction to quarantine,” the post reads. “All other students and staff continue with their regular schedules. ”

In her post, Arnold asked the school community to “diligently” use daily health screenings and quarantine if they have symptoms. She asked parents to keep their children home if they develop symptoms, and call the school nurse during the day; in the evening or on weekends, parents are asked to call 211.

“Thank you to everyone for taking physical distancing, mask-wearing and hygiene guidelines so seriously,” Arnold wrote. “You are helping to keep our schools open for in-person learning.”
