50 Years Ago: 1971
The banquet sponsored by the Central Maine General Hospital Nurses Alumni Association will feature a talk by Lew Colby, a Channel Six weatherman and public relations representative. Honored guests will be members of the 1971 graduating class. A social hour at 6 p.m. at Steckino’s Restaurant will open the evening’s events. Mrs. David Ehrenfried is hospitality chairman and she, Mrs. Elsie Lauten and Mrs. Dorothy Richardson are in charge of all reservations. Guests may be invited to the Apr. 16 event.
25 Years Ago: 1996
David Morrish will present a lecture, “English Country Tales,” along with “A Royal History of England” at the Sawyer Memorial Building Thursday at 7:30 pm and Friday at 2 and 7:30 pm. Morrish, a United Kingdom native, will tell a collection of stories about life as it was, and still is, where tea is served with milk and beer at room temperature. He will take a look at foxhunting, the English garden, thatched roofs, bowler hats and the aristocracy as well as taking the audience to the Lake District, Cornwall and the Moors. Morrish will also take a journey through history. including Henry Vlll and his six wives, the princes in the tower, Charles and the Civil War, Richard the Lionhearted and Edward VIIl and Mrs. Simpson.
