One of the nicest things about the scale of living in central Maine is that we get the opportunity to know our neighbors, and then discover, if we’re lucky, that they might represent us in the Legislature.
And so it is with Karen Kusiak, who is running to be the representative for House District 84 — Fairfield, Smithfield and Rome.
I don’t know Karen well, but I do know that her platform, which supports small businesses, nonprofits, local farmers, craftspeople and the creative economy, is something she supports not just in theory, but in reality.
I’ve seen her frequently at Waterville’s Downtown Farmer’s Market, a block from my office, and watched her volunteer at the Maine International Film Festival, and be a regular patron of Railroad Square Cinema, two local nonprofits with which I’m involved.
What this suggests is a genuineness and honesty that makes her stances something we can count on because they’re deeply held.
