AUGUSTA – Kyle Douin had a home run and struck out seven batters on the mound for the Cony baseball team, which beat Brewer 9-3 in a Class A North opening round game in Augusta on Tuesday.
Cam Douin had a double for Cony, while Isaac Gammon and David Tibler each had two hits.
MONMOUTH ACADEMY 9, TRAIP ACADEMY 3: The Mustangs (13-3) scored half a dozen runs in the fourth inning to break the tie and take down the Rangers (2-15) in Monmouth to advance to the second round of the Class C South playoffs.
After a 2-2 tie through three innings, Monmouth Academy scored six in the fourth inning to break loose and earn the opening round victory for the Mustangs. Monmouth’s Hayden Fletcher notched a double on the day while teammate Hunter Frost tallied a triple in the win. Cam Armstrong pitched six innings to earn the victory on the mound.
Traip Academy used four pitchers in Tuesday’s clash. Cam Maes hit a double in the loss.
MT. ABRAM 9, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 1: The No. 3 Road Runners (13-3) spread out their runs throughout the game to hammer away at their win over the No. 14 Phoenix (1-6) in a Class C South opening round playoff game at Strong.
Ben Debaise notched four hits for Mt. Abram on Tuesday and scoring three runs while also notching two strike outs on the mound in an inning pitched. Trevor Phelps pitched five innings and gave up just one run and struck out 10 in the win. Phelps hit a home run in the fourth inning.
Isac Parker gave up nine runs on the mound and struck out six in the loss.
SKOWHEGAN 3, HAMPDEN 1: Tyler Annis had a double to lead the River Hawks to a Class A North opening round win over the Broncos in Skowhegan.
Brenden Dunlap and Quintcey McCray each added two hits for Skowhegan. Cam Green struck out nine batters to earn the win for Skowhegan.
SACOPEE VALLEY 10, HALL-DALE 0: McGwire Sawyer pitched six innings, giving up one hit and no earned runs, striking out 11 to lead the No. 6 Hawks past the No. 11 Bulldogs (3-10) in A Class C South prelim at Hiram.
Sawyer also had three hits and two RBI. Tristan Croteau and Austin Croteau each each had two hits and three RBI.
Drake Bickford had Hall-Dale’s hit.
LISBON 11, MADISON 1: The fourth-seeded Greyhounds (11-2) came out of the gates slowly but turned it on in the third inning to defeat the 13th-seeded Bulldogs (2-7) in the Class C South quarterfinals in Lisbon.
Hunter Brissette earned two hits including a triple while also striking out 10 batters in five innings on the mound to earn the win. Neil Larochelle, Levi Tibbetts and Riley Turner all notched a double for Lisbon.
Madison’s Aiden Ostigvy notched a triple and scored on a throwing error for the Bulldogs’ only run.
LAWRENCE 3, JOHN BAPST 0: Zach Nickerson earned the win on the mound for the Bulldogs in a Class B North opening round win over the Crusaders in Fairfield.
Lawrence improves to 11-5 on the season. John Bapst ends its season with a 6-11 record.
SOFTBALL
MADISON 7, MT. ABRAM 0: Hailey Paquet tripled and Lilian Levesque went 2 for 4 with two RBIs to lead the Bulldogs in a Class C South prelim game in Madison.
Brooke McKenney turned in another dominant performance in the circle, striking out 18 and allowing just three hits. She didn’t walk a batter.
Jersey Tewsbury went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Landyn Landry had three hits for Madison as well.
LAWRENCE 12, CARIBOU 0: Kaylee Elkins had two hits, including a double, to lead the Bulldogs to a Class B North opening round win over the Vikings in Fairfield.
Emily Hagerty and Sage Reed each added three hits for Lawrence. Reed earned the win in the circle for Lawrence.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 8, ERSKINE 0: The No. 5 Patriots (13-4) shutout the No. 12 Eagles (3-9) in Gray to advance out of the first round of the Class B South softball playoffs.
Maisie Lerette hit two singles and a double and stole four bases in the win for Gray-New Gloucester. Amelia Cobb earned a single and a double in the win. In the circle, Madison Pelletier gave up just three hits and struck out four.
Hannah Huff gave up eight hits from the circle and notched a double at the plate in the loss for Erskine Academy.
GARDINER 5, LAKE REGION 2: Maddie Farnham had three hits to lead the Tigers to a Class B South opening round victory over the Lakers in Gardiner.
Dakota Lovely had a double for Gardiner.
Kylie Meyers had a double for Lake Region.
MONMOUTH 12, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 4: The third-seeded Mustangs (11-0) extended their undefeated campaign with a win over the 14th-seeded Seagulls (1-12) in the Class C South quarterfinals in Monmouth.
Abby Flanagan, Katie Laliberte and Erin Gosselin all notched a double for Monmouth Academy in the win. Brooklyn Federico earned the win from the circle.
Old Orchard Beach’s Summer St. Louis took the loss from the circle but notched a triple at the plate with three total hits on the day.
GIRLS LACROSSE
CAPE ELIZABETH 13, CONY 8: Sierra Clark, Maci Freeman and Azabell Assaf each scored two goals for the Rams, who fell to the Capers in a Class B opening round game in Augusta.
Madison Chavarie had 16 saves for Cony.
Charlotte Graham and Claire McDonald each had five goals for Cape Elizabeth.
BRUNSWICK 10, GARDINER/HALL-DALE 5: Emily Cloutier scored eight goals to help carry the Dragons (9-4) past Gardiner/Hall-Dale in a Class A opening round game in Brunswick.
Cloutier’s final goal was the 100th of her high school career. Delia Braillard and Kelsie Carlton each added a goal for Brunswick, who got six saves in goal from Alamea McCarthy.
Natalie Fossett paced the Tigers with two goals, while Averi Baker, Lilly Diversi, and Emma Bourquet had one apiece.
