A Fairfield man has been arrested by police after reportedly fleeing the scene of an alleged domestic violence assault on Sunday on a four-wheeler.
Skowhegan Police Chief David Bucknam said Monday afternoon that the Fairfield Police Department had initially responded to the report of a domestic incident Sunday evening around 11 p.m. on Back Road.
During the course of the investigation, police identified Taylor A. Pelletier, 28, of Fairfield, as the suspect. Pelletier lives in the home with a wife and children, Bucknam said. Following Sunday evening’s incident, Pelletier was charged with domestic violence aggravated assault and domestic violence terrorizing. He was taken to the Somerset County Jail in East Madison.
Bucknam referred questions on the nature of the call to the home to Fairfield police, who did not immediately return a phone call Monday seeking details on the allegations against Pelletier.
Upon police arriving, Pelletier allegedly fled the scene on a four-wheeler, using a trail system nearby and entering Skowhegan.
Around 1 a.m., Maine State Police Tactical Team and Skowhegan Police had also arrived to assist. Initially, police thought Pelletier might have fled to his mother’s home on Fairview Avenue, then to a friend’s home on Avore Street.
A search warrant, obtained by Fairfield police, was executed at the friend’s home on Avore Street, Bucknam said. During this time, Pelletier’s mom had called police to report that she was with Pelletier, in Dover-Foxcroft, and he wanted to turn himself in to police.
“We had him travel to the Skowhegan Police Department. Then he turned himself over to Skowhegan and Fairfield police units without further incident,” Bucknam said.
Bucknam said that there was never any danger to the public during the incident.
“The Crisis Negotiation team did an amazing job getting him to turn himself in and the Tactical Team making sure that everyone in the neighborhoods were safe,” Bucknam said.
Back Road and Avore Street were temporarily closed during the incident.
